Panthers get a key district win over Timberview 66-56

Last Friday the boy’s basketball team took on Mansfield Timberview in a huge district matchup with playoff implications. The Panthers came into the game with a record of (19-7) and a district record of (3-3). Timberview came into the game with a record of (22-4) and a district record of (3-3). The Panthers went into Friday night looking to avenge an earlier loss to Timberview during the Mansfield ISD Spring Creek Classic.

The Panthers won 66-56. Senior guard Jerami Grace led the Panthers offense with 17 points and junior center Omar Sherman had 14 points. Sophomore guard Matthew McQuaid had 12 points and went 7/7 from the free throw line.

The Panthers came out hot, scoring 17 points in the first quarter. Senior guard Nassar Issa and Omar Sherman both had 4 points after the first quarter. The Panthers only gave up 6 points in that quarter.

The Panthers maintained their offense in the second quarter and went into halftime with a comfortable 31-16 lead. Junior forward DJ Wallace led all scorers with 6 points in the second quarter.

Timberview would not go away quietly and put up 19 points on the Panther defense in the third quarter. At the end of 3 the Panthers led 42-35. The fourth quarter was exciting. Both teams went back and forth scoring the ball, but the Panthers came out on top making their free throws to end the game.

The Panthers are now one game above .500 in district and are (20-7) overall. On Tuesday the Panthers take on Midlothian at home. The game tips off at 7:30.
