After a 57-53 upset over the state’s Number 3 ranked South Grand Prairie Friday night, the Panthers have the chance to finish second in very tough District 7-5A for the first time in many years with a win Tuesday over Mansfield Timberview.

This was a huge game for Matthew McQuaid who hit mutiple key shots for the team giving them leads over SGP throughout the game. He showed a lot of potential and explosiveness, giving the Panthers just what they need to push it in the playoffs.

The Panthers offense was clicking all night, getting into the paint and hitting some mid range jumpers. The team had confidence shooting the ball which always helps even if you don’t knock down the shot.

Trailing by six, Duncanville (17-11, 9-4) went on a 10-0 run midway through the third quarter, sparked by Miami signee Omar Sherman and four-star shooting guard Matt McQuaid. McQuaid converted a three-point play, flipping a no-look left-handed layup in for a 40-38 lead — Duncanville’s first advantage since the opening minutes of the game. He finished with 18 points, while Sherman had 19 points and 12 rebounds.

Duncanville played some decent defense tonight as well. Not letting any easy buckets go down uncontested. The paint was completely locked down, as always. Big men Omar Sherman and Austin Howard are one tough interior duo. Together they make opposing teams scared to go into the lane, blocking shot after shot.

Overall the Panthers played great in a very key game. They now hold the tiebreaker for second place after posting the second win against SGP in district play. This game followed by a strong win in Mansfield on Tuesday could give the Panthers the momentum they need to make a strong run in the playoffs.
