After winning their first game in post season against Waco Midway 2-0 the varsity boys soccer will face off against top ranked McKinney Boyd in the Area Championship game tonight at 7 p.m. at Carrollton’s Tommy Standridge Stadium.

“We must play with more urgency in this game,” head coach Nuno Passos said. “Every player must pick up there speed of play and look to combine quicker around the goal.”

The Panthers have faced Boyd the last two years in this round of the playoffs and split wins with them losing a very close one last year.

“To pick up the win against a quality team like Boyd, we must play well as a team,” Passos said. “It will take a commitment and sacrifice from everyone.”

After the first round of playoffs Passos said the road to even the regional round heats up quite a bit as five of the top 10 face off against each other in this round.

“This is a crazy round of soccer as many quality teams in the metroplex will go down while other teams out west will survive without ever facing anyone with the caliber of teams here in DFW,” Passos said.

Passos said tonight’s game will showcase some great talent and overall great competition for fans.

“I believe this will be a very measured and tightly matched game with very few chances at goal given up on either side,” Passos said. “This game could very easily go to penalty kicks to decide who moves on to the next round.”
