After playing a thriller last Friday night against Mansfield Legacy, the Panthers volleyball team will play Cedar Hill in Cedar Hill tonight looking to increase their district record. The Legacy game was the first of the district games where players had a chance to show the home crowd a preview of what is to come this year.

“I was trying to focus on my serves and being a good leader, doing my leadership roles.” senior Tiara Iwegbu said.

Iwegbu was one of two Duncanville players who stood out last Friday. The other was senior Autumn Ellison. The two did most of the scoring last week. It seemed like every time you looked up to watch the next play, it was Iwegbu or Ellison hitting powerful spikes, right past the opposing players. The girls played, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t any room for improvement.

“There is always room for improvement. You can always improve on everything.” Iwegbu said.

Before last weeks game against Legacy, Coach Lyn Evans wasn’t too sure about how her players were going to do in their tough district

“It is going to be tough. We are young and inexperienced.” Evans said.

Coach Evans was no longer thinking that they were too young or inexperienced that Friday night. The team looked as if they had been playing High School volleyball their entire lives.

“ I was very surprised. They definitely exceeded my expectations.” Evans said.

Their game against Legacy was the first game of their upcoming district schedule. It wont be easy to win district this year, but it wont be impossible.

“ It is very open. Anything can happen from here.” Evans said.
