Tonight the Panthers will take on the State’s number two team in South Grand Prairie.  The game will be crucial after a tough loss to Desoto last week putting the Panthers in a need to win game to finish the first round of district.

After handing DeSoto their only loss of the season, the Eagles moved up to the number one spot and number five spot in the national ranking by going undefeated after the loss at the  McDonald’s Texas Invitational. While the Panthers came in to win a second time, the Eagles wanted to avenge the loss.

The Panthers lost the thriller in double overtime (62-58) against the top ranked Eagles. To win the Panthers needed to have to play excellent defense to overcome the Eagles and they almost pulled off the upset with a last second 3 pointer from Renard Green to put the Panthers in an overtime battle for the home win.

Senior guard Jerami Grace led all scorers with 18 points for the Panthers. Junior forward DJ Wallace had 11 points. Junior center Omar Sherman had 10 points for the Panthers as well.

The Panthers were in the game and hung with Desoto till the final seconds of double overtime. This brings the Panthers’ overall record to (19-6) and their district record to (3-2).

The team will be looking to move back into a position to take second place in the district with a win against SGP tonight. Tipoff is at 7:30.
