Games having a realistic story based on a real life tragedy are usually a no-no in the unwritten video game rules. Mostly because there aren’t many ways to play off  situations like the holocaust. That’s why it’s really interesting to see someone try to bring that to life.

Imagination Is The Only Escape is a game based of one of humanity’s biggest atrocities, The Holocaust. Director Luc Bernard is currently trying to fund $125,000 for this game on IndieGoGo, an online fundraising website. The game, if released, is going to be an educational, story-heavy game, that will truly teach people how bad of a situation the holocaust was.

“ Imagination will not only have users thinking about the people involved, but the game aims to inspire more people to research and learn about the holocaust,” Bernard wrote, “ As the old saying goes: ‘ Those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat.’ Video games are often seen as meaningless distractions for children, but Imagination has the potential to make a trail for other games that look to tackle controversial, but important topics.

If released, the game has major potential to open the path for games to be used in an educational system and if successful, can open the minds of teachers and game developers alike to widen their methods of reaching their respective audiences.

The game’s IndieGoGo page is set to end on October 17, 2013 and as of this post has raised $2,480 out of it’s $125,000 goal. It’s page can be found here, http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/imagination-is-the-only-escape
