The movie begins with Ben (Kevin Hart) and Angela (Tika Sumpter) living together, Ben is a school security guard, however, he wants to be accepted into the police academy so he can show his girlfriend he is doing something with his life and eventually propose to her. However, like most big brothers, James (Ice Cube), Angela’s older sibling, does not believe that Ben is worthy enough to take his precious little sister’s hand in marriage. James believes that no one would be able to protect his sister like he can, so no one should have her. James is already an established detective in the police force who is put only on the highest cases and never scared to go out on the battle field of Atlanta each and every day, looking for the roughest, toughest criminals.

As we already know, James isn’t too crazy about Ben, so when Ben asks James for Angela’s hand in marriage, James flat out refuses to give the two his blessing. Which means a lot to the both of them. Ben knows that he needs James blessing to move on to the next stage in their life with Angela, so Ben continuously asks for his blessing. James eventually buckles and offers Ben a day to Ride Along with him in the day of crime and prove to him that he is worthy enough to call himself James brother-in-law, and if he does a good job out with James on the battlefield, James promises to put in a good word to his boss for Ben to be accepted into the police academy. Ben triumphantly agrees.

James does not mention when he gives Ben this once in a lifetime offer. Number one, James is on a secret mission to catch the never before seen druglord, Omar, and number two, James calls all his police office friends to set up a number of nuisances to stop Ben from doing a good job on his one day to prove to James that he is worthy. Eventually after a long day of failing at every attempt to prove to James that he can protect Angela, he is ready to give up and he calls Angela to tell her what a terrible day he has had and doesn’t think he is cut out to be a police officer. Ben soon finds out that his failures were because of James and he gets a new rise of confidence and is ready to conquer the world. Ben and James go on crazy adventures together. This movie is an amazing movie and a definite must see.
