Thanks to the American Federation of Teachers grant, the library was able to give away free books to students who came to the library on Friday. They also hosted other activities such as coloring and gave out snacks.
“The purpose of grant is to strengthen public schools,” librarian Jen Tahaney said.
Receiving the AFT grant allowed the library to purchase 4,000 books, 500 of which were given to students.
“We want to get books in student’s homes,” Tahaney said. “We love libraries, and we love checking out books, but we know that reading really begins at home.”
