American Horror Story: Freak Show premiered October 8, 2014, beginning its fourth season taking place in 1952 Jupiter, Florida telling the story of one of the last remaining freak shows in America, struggle ling for survival. While the city being tormented and put on curfew by a homicidal “Clown’ killing the least customer they can receive.

The time AMH season is tackling the view of showing the history of Outcast vs. Society. The season will be telling the story of the backstage of the Freak Show and the cruelty they suffer for being “freaks. ”  The seasons begins with Bette and Dot Tattler (conjoined twins) telling their story of how they ended joining the show. It also seems that we may learned the past of the other member and how they ended joining the show business.

The season also begins with amazing makeup and special effects. American Horror Story always ends up impressing their fans with their unique terrifying creations.  Begging with the homicidal clown “Twisty the Clown”, it’s amazing how they were able to create the reason why people have phobia of clown’s. From “Twisty” smile that scars you and leaves you still, to his forehead mask to seem as if it became part of his skin. Their also Betty and Dot. The capability of creating a second head and not being able to recognize from which head is the real one to which one is the fake. The setting they created help emphasize the terror that AMHS bring to the show; there is also the feeling you have as you’ve been transported to the year 1952.

While the makeup emphasis the character it is able to view that they are able to speak for them self. Starting with Elsa (the Ring Leader), a fame-hungry cabaret performer from pre-war Berlin, who will do anything to pry those eyes away from TVs in order to get them to notice and accept her troupe of oddities. Elsa may have an uphill battle, though, because the residents of Jupiter, Florida, are already ferociously discriminating against them.  A Nurses balk at the sight of conjoined twins Bette and Dot but Elsa sees them as the freak show’s savior; men throw beer bottles at three of Elsa’s performers; and a detective meets his gruesome demise after stereotyping them as “Freaks.” Bette and Dot Tattler (conjoined twins) they may shared the same body but have differ personality. One hold this resentment and anger that she build a wall to protect her from being hurt, while the other has this personality of living a normal life still knowing she is different, it seem she desires to be a singer. There is also Ethel (bearded lady/ mother of Jimmy) who is seen that Ethel believes Elsa is this great savior who saved them from the cruelty of society.  And lastly Jimmy Darling (lobster hand/ son of Ethel), as his name tells he is darling, with a smile that can make you melt. But inside he hides this hate and resentment against people who discriminate them as “freaks.” Does this mean that in Jimmy past he could have bee hurt.

There was this scene were Elsa sung her cover of David Bowie- Life on Mars, which was astonishing. The German accent she brought to the song just helped create this creepy, freaky mood. The song also helped contribute to the awkwardness and creepiness to the show. There was also an irony where during the song on of the lyrics sings, “freak show”, which the show is called and based on a freak show.

Over all the season premier was a success it was gruesome, horrific, and terrorizing in a spectral way. Its characters are vivid, its special effects and makeup never disappointed and its story line was clear and smoothly.  For fans of American Horror Story, Freak Show will be its most terrifying season of all.
