The varsity boys soccer team will advance to the second round of playoffs against McKinney Boyd after a 1-0 win against number four ranked Colleyville Heritage last night.
“The team had a great game,” senior left defender Alex Martinez said. “Every player had a key role, and they accomplished their tasks. We did what we had to do.”
Junior Chris Reyna scored the goal that secured the win for the boys.
“I did not really feel anything until after Chris scored,” said senior center back Joshua Erwin. “I was happy as long as we got the goal.”
Coach Nuno Passos believes the team’s superior strategy helped the boys beat the tough opponent as well.
“We got the win going for us,” Passos said. “We out coached them in the first half.”
Their next opponent, McKinney Boyd, is ranked as the number two team in the area.
“I felt prepared to win and fight,” senior midfielder Eder Falcon Said. “I felt confident and now I am motivated for the second round.”
The team feels like they have something to prove.
“We are motivated especially because we’re the underdog,” Erwin said. “We train like underdogs but we play like champions.”
