Duncanville’s star center Ciera Johnson was selected to play in the McDonald’s All-American game in Chicago, IL. to be aired on ESPNU on March 30.  Johnson is ranked as the 15th best female player in the nation at her post position according to ESPN 2016 HoopGurlz rankings. She also recently inked her name on the line to play for the University of Louisville next year.

“She has had a huge impact on the team this year and will make a huge impact at the next level,” Pantherettes head coach Cathy Self-Morgan said. “She is a hard worker and great leader.”

Johnson has earned many other accolades in her three years on the Pantherettes. She has been selected as an all-district player as a sophomore, all-state as a junior, and was most recently deemed the Sandra Meadows Classic tournaments Most Valuable Player after she helped lead the Pantherettes to dominate in the home tournament.

“To my teammates, coaches, my sister and parents thank you for all of your support.” Ciera Johnson said.

Ciera Johnson last season averaged 14.9 points, 9.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 3.2 blocks and 1.2 steals. This year she is on pace to average 20.2 points, 10.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.9 blocks and 0.8 steals.

“It goes to show my hard work is paying off, but I still have so much more to prove,” Johnson said.

Johnson is also a member of National Honors Society and maintains high grades while being a nationally recognized basketball player. Johnson plans to major in Business at Louisville, but basketball will always be her first love.

“Basketball is my life, and I love the sport,” Johnson said.
