The boys track team will have several runners representing 5-5A at this weeks Regional meet in Lubbock.

“I feel like we practiced hard enough to make it to Regionals, “senior Darrius Davis said, “We had done what we were suppose to do and that was the prize at the end.”

A few of the runners feel they have important things they need to work on in order to be on top of their game when Regionals come around.

“Mainly we need to work on finishing the last hundred, its all about who crosses the line first not who starts off the fastest,” senior Jonathon Cook said.

Coach Dorris feels the boys can perform well in regionals if they can manage to overcome a few mental factors.

“They are experienced but still young, thinking too much instead of just running,” Dorris said, “if we can eliminate that they should compete at a high level. We’ll see how they handle it all.”

The boys track team got off to a good start when they competed in the first meet of the season. The team had a strong pre-season defeating many of the teams in their district early.

“We see most every team in our district throughout the year, so we know what we’ll see at district,”  Dorris said.

Senior Johathan Cardenas said he struggled early on but has since provided satisfying performances.

“I feel I’ve been doing pretty good, better than last year,” senior Jonathan Cardenas said, “I’ve been improving every track meet and have been building up for district.”

The team knew their objective and how they wanted to achieve it, it wouldn’t be easy with the district they were in.

“We started off slow but we’ve picked it up,” junior Richard Gary said. “We’re just going to take it one step at a time making it to Regionals and getting first in district.”

Dorris said work ethic played a big part in why the team did well and was able to progress.

“They know what you put in, you will get out,” Dorris said, “so they are working extremely hard and have been very focused.”
