Tuesday the Panthers basketball team takes on Desoto in another district competition. Desoto comes into the game with an overall record (27-2) and a district record of (10-1). Desoto is led by senior guard Matt Jones who averages about 15 points a game this season. Desoto is coming off of a win against Midlothian with a final score of 54-33. Jones led the team with 17 points and junior guard Julian Green had 13 points.

The Panthers are coming into Tuesday’s game with an overall record of (23-7) and a district record of (8-3). The Panther’s beat Mansfield last Friday with the final score of 68-47 in an overall dominating game. Junior post Omar Sherman led the team with 26 points. Senior guard Renard Green was the second leading scorer with 17 points.

The race for first place got a lot closer when Desoto lost to South Grand Prairie 48-46 with a buzzer beating shot within the final seconds of the game. Desoto is in first place, but with two more losses Desoto could lose first place. South Grand Prairie is in second place and they have to win their last three games to capture the second place spot in district. The Panthers must win their last three games to capture the second seed in district. They face Desoto, SGP, and Mansfield Timberview in their final three games.

To beat Desoto the Panthers are going to have to play with extra motivation and air tight defense. The Panthers lost in double overtime last time the two met. The game was extremely close the whole way through so I expect the same thing on Tuesday.
