The Duncanville varsity boys’ basketball team has taken care of business, in a season that has been nothing less than exciting. After suffering another lost to the States #4 team in  Cedar Hill for the second time this season the Panther’s came up short again but still have sole possession of second place in what is probably arguably one of the toughest districts in the state in 7-6A at 6-2.

Cedar Hill gave Duncanville their  only two losses in district play. Friday’s game held plenty of significance and gave the Panthers a chance to split the title but a hard fought battle ended in a tough 73-55 loss for the Panthers. Now they must still face DeSoto and South Grand Prairie again to keep their second seeded spot. Both of these games in the first round were nail biters as The panthers escaped DeSoto 47-44 at home earlier and took a close road win over the Wariors 69-59 as well. Head Coach Corey Chism said has been very impressed with Duncanville’s play in District play, was looking to start the game against Cedar Hill out strong.

“It’s very important that we get off to a really good start.” Chism said. “When you are playing a team like that, you can’t afford to get out to a slow start and have to play catch up with a team of Cedar Hill’s caliber.”

Chism also finds it important for his team to handle their business in every game they  play to close the season.

“We have to be able to handle adverse moments in the game and be physically and mentally tougher,” Chism said.

Chism said he has instilled in his team being mentally tough, which is a very important asset in good basketball teams. This season Chism has scheduled teams and tournaments against the toughest competition to give his players that mental toughness that is very valuable to have.

“With us playing in one of the toughest districts in the state, we want our players to already be equipped and able to handle tough games,” Chism said. “It helps gives us that necessary edge over our opponents.”

Chism has done a fantastic job with his team this year, and it shows in the teams intensity and play. This Duncanville basketball team has momentum going for them at just the right time. Even with the tough loss to Cedar Hill the team showed they can play with a top 5 team and be competitive as they begin the State Playoffs in a few weeks.
